As soon as the big mounds of dirt at the Paws Town site dry out enough to support heavy machinery without getting stuck in the mud, construction to complete the area's first dog park will again be moving forward. It should not take long to complete the spreading and leveling phase of the construction project. Then we will move to the installation of water lines for the doggie and people drinking fountains. After that, it's on to landscaping and walkways. The fencing will then be installed and all of the additional decorative features such as signage and benches will be moved in. Despite the lack of work on the physical location, there has been a lot of behind the scenes work being done at our meetings and we are still anticipating a summer opening date.

Who is Marge Hartman? Marjorie Hartman was born July 4, 1922, one of three daughters of James and Margaret Hill. She married Ensign Willis Hartman in July 1948. After being widowed in 1963, Marge worked as an EKG technician for Trumbull Memorial Hospital and later became a self-employed dog groomer. Hartman was a lifelong animal-lover. Her occupation as a dog groomer kept her close to that which she loved most. A Boardman resident with two dogs of her own, she established a Charitable Foundation with Huntington National Bank as trustee shortly before her death in 2008. The foundation looks to fund animal-welfare projects in the Mahoning Valley in Marge's name. Marge Hartman passed away on Nov 11, 2008 at the age of 86. [Read Obit]
